This is another new one for Story Horse, though many lovers of Japanese art will recognise it straight away as Shiba Benten Pond, by Kawase Hasui (1883 – 1957)

I’ve gotten around to rendering it as a wood block print in centimetre-thick acacia birch. It’s 18.5cm wide by 24.5cm high.

But this is such a deep image that it can work at any scale from this right up to a floor-to-ceiling mural, and all in glorious local birch which has a delicate swirling grain pattern that works so well with the image.
